Annual License Sales by State
For more than 50 years, anglers have helped fund the management of their aquatic
resources by purchasing state fishing licenses. Currently, all states require adult
anglers to obtain a freshwater fishing license. License requirements for kids or
saltwater fishing vary by state. When license sales are combined with the monies
raised by the federal manufacturers excise tax imposed on fishing tackle, anglers contribute over $1.2
billion to conservation annually.
