Angler Participation & Lifestyles
Sportfishing in America
According to the latest U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's report, the 2006 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife–Associated Recreation, nearly 30 million anglers generate over $45 billion in retail sales with a $125 billion impact on the nation’s economy creating employment for over one million people. The political clout is even greater when you consider at least 60 million anglers fish at some point over a five-year period.
Details on state and national-level sportfishing participation and economic impacts are available from the American Sportfishing Association's Sportfishing in America: An Economic Engine and Conservation Powerhouse.
Additional economic information is provided in the Industry and Economic Trends section.
