ICAST 2008 Industry Breakfast
More than 500 people attended the Industry Breakfast, held the morning of July 16, just before the opening of ICAST 2008, to officially start the show. ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman presented his state of the industry address along with remarks from Darrell Lowrance, ASA Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee Member and Randy Lemcke, ASA Board of Directors Chairman and Vice President, Plano Molding Company.
“This is where our industry gets together and conducts business,” Lemcke said during the Industry Breakfast. “There is nowhere else in the world like ICAST.”
A keynote address from Frank Peterson, president and CEO of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation discussed the efforts of RBFF to increase access and participation through the Take Me Fishing and Anglers’ Legacy brands.
“We’re generating enthusiasm and excitement about fishing and boating,” Peterson said about the efforts of RBFF to increase participation through the Anglers’ Legacy program. “When I participated in my first ICAST last year, the Anglers’ Legacy program was more than a year old and we had only 8,200 pledges. Today, as I stand here, we have about 58,000. By March 31st, we expect a total of 130,000.”
At the breakfast, ASA released the country’s first top-10 list of the items that have changed the way people fish, as determined by a survey of the nation’s most avid anglers. ASA partnered with the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation to survey the foundation’s thousands of Anglers’ Legacy Ambassadors, the country’s most avid anglers, who voted for the products they feel have been most instrumental in shaping the sport over the past seven and a half decades.
Darrell Lowrance, ASA Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee member addresses the audience on the importance of member support in to ensure fishing access across the country.
