Sportfishing Industry Partners with East Coast Outdoors Show
by Mary Jane Williamson

January 3, 2006—Alexandria, VA—The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) and Eastern Fishing & Outdoor Exposition, LLC, located in New Hampshire, are proud to announce a new partnership. This new venture merges the resources of the association with the expertise and strong traditions of Eastern Fishing’s fishing, hunting and marine consumer shows.

For 30 years, under the leadership of founder, Paul Fuller, Eastern Fishing & Outdoor Exposition, LLC, has been the leader in sportsmen’s show management in the eastern United States. ASA is committed to its mission, as the sportfishing industry’s trade association, of safeguarding and promoting the social, economic and conservation values of sportfishing.

ASA’s future stewardship of the Eastern Fishing lineup of shows provides a strong beacon for the fishing, hunting and marine industries. ASA has a 48-year history producing ICAST (International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades), the sportfishing industry’s trade show scheduled for July 19–21, 2006, in Las Vegas. ASA is also a partner with California-based Fred Hall & Associates, operators of the largest and most successful fishing and boating equipment expos in the West.

“As chairman of ASA’s Board of Directors, I am very pleased with the outcome of the discussions between ASA and Paul Fuller of Eastern Fishing & Outdoor Exposition, LLC,” said Dave Pfeiffer, executive vice president, Shimano American Corporation. “This partnership is exciting for both the consumer and the industry with ASA providing resources from the fishing tackle industry and fresh, innovative ideas to grow the shows in future years.”

During its 30-year history, Eastern Fishing has served hundreds of thousands of sportsmen and women and thousands of exhibitors. The partnership between ASA and Eastern Fishing ensures for many years to come, continued strong leadership for the Eastern Fishing & Outdoor Exposition shows. The dates and locations for the ASA/Eastern Fishing shows are:

  • Eastern Fishing & Outdoor Exposition: Worcester, Mass., February 9–12, 2006
  • World Fishing & Outdoor Exposition: Suffern, New York, March 2–5, 2006
  • World Fly Fishing Exposition: Wilmington, Mass., March 10–12, 2006
  • NEW IN 2006—The Saltwater Fishing Expo: Somerset, New Jersey, March 17–19

Mike Nussman, ASA president and CEO echoes Pfeiffer’s beliefs. “Sportsmen and women will be well served by this new venture,” said Nussman. “Between ASA, Fred Hall & Associates and Eastern Fishing, combined, we have more than 100 years of experience in providing a showcase for the best there is in the fishing, hunting and marine industries. In the tradition established by Paul Fuller, I have no doubt that these shows will continue to be a key destination for people who enjoy the out-of-doors.”

Paul Fuller will remain as show manager and provide the continuity and service expected and delivered by Eastern Fishing for the past thirty years. “I am 100 percent behind this partnership. Although the primary mission of ASA is focused on sportfishing,” says Fuller, “they understand and fully support the hunting and shooting sports segment of our sportsmen’s shows. This commitment is unwavering.”

The American Sportfishing Association is the sportfishing industry’s trade association, uniting more than 650 members of the sportfishing and boating industries with state fish and wildlife agencies, federal land and water management agencies, conservation organizations, angler advocacy groups and outdoor journalists. The American Sportfishing Association safeguards and promotes the enduring social, economic and conservation values of sportfishing.
