Tackle Sales Trends
Indices
Data on sales trends
up to the most recent quarter for major tackle categories and all tackle
sales combined, included comparisons to the previous year. The
data is provided by SportscanINFO.
Fishing
License Sales Indices
Data on fishing license sales trends
by region of the country which serves as an indicator of overall fishing
participation trends.
Fishing
Tackle Imports Indices
Based on government customs data, the data
compare fishing tackle imports from the most recent quarter to the
same quarter, previous year. Details are provided for all tackle
imports combined, plus 12 separate categories of tackle.
Online Tackle Sales Indices
Based on an independent, monthly, Web-based consumer survey; this
page provides information on the percentage of retail purchases transacted
online for six major categories of fishing tackle.
Angler Lifestyle Analysis
This section contains information regarding an analysis of state fishing license
data to learn where people are more likely to take up fishing or to drop out,
how loyal people are as license buyers and anglers, trends driving angler numbers
and more. By the end of 2006, reports for a maximum of 16 states will be available.
This project is being conducted in partnership with the Association of Fish and
Wildlife Agencies and ASA with funding from the Sport Fish Restoration Multi-State
Grant program.
Rainfall
Indices—Archives
Data comparing rainfall in recent quarters to the
3-year historical average which is an indicator if fishing participation
and sales are up or down. Rainfall has been statistically shown to
be the top indicator of fishing activity.

This section provides ASA-produced reports and documents as well
as a partial list of third-party Web sites relating to sportfishing.
