License Sales Indices
This data is available from first quarter 2003 to the first quarter of 2005. The fishing license index, developed in partnership with the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, tracked trends in fishing license sales.
Using license sales data provided by state fish and wildlife
agencies, the results of this quarterly index will help the reader
understand if angler numbers are increasing or decreasing. While fishing
license sales are not a perfect indicator of fishing participation or
frequency, the results do provide a good indicator of the number of active,
interested anglers.
This index reports changes in license sales for the
U.S. as a whole. The index does not report
the total number of licenses sold, but instead reports the percentage
change in license sales compared to the same quarter for the previous
year.
