National Fishing and Boating Week
2004 Highlights

Jimmy Johnson

The sportfishing community celebrated the nationwide observance of National Fishing and Boating Week June 5-13 by hosting hundreds of fishing events across the country to kick off the new fishing season.  The American Sportfishing Association brought together members of the sportfishing industry and partners June 7-9 for events in the nation’s capital to shine the spotlight on the values of sportfishing.  Here are some of the highlights of the week:

National Fishing and Boating Week Kickoff
As the official chairperson for National Fishing and Boating Week 2004, former NFL Coach Jimmy Johnson helped kick off the nationwide observance at Harlem Meer in Central Park, New York, on June 5.  Media coverage of the event and a number of television and radio interviews helped promote fishing events across the country and free fishing days offered by states. National Fishing and Boating Week Community Events
An event at Constitution Gardens in downtown Washington on June 7 was one of hundreds of events taking place across the country.  More than 700 National Fishing and Boating Week events were registered on the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation’s website, an 83 percent increase over last year. Learn more at www.nationalfishingandboatingweek.org

American Sportfishing Association Events in Washington, DC
The American Sportfishing Association hosted a boat cruise along the Potomac River on June 7 for all our members who came to town to help promote the values of sportfishing.

The Discover Boating and Fishing Mobile Marketing Tour made the nation’s capital its latest port of call, setting up outside the Halls of Congress on June 8 to help make a good showing for fishing and boating. Learn more at www.nmma.org

More than 250 partners gathered for the American Sportfishing Association’s Congressional reception in the Russell Senate Caucus Room on June 8, where we honored sportfishing champions.
