ICAST 2006 Highlights

ICAST Statistics
ICAST 2006 sold out in early April with 392 total exhibitors filling 1,264 booths spanning 250,000 square feet of the Las Vegas Convention Center. ICAST 2006, the largest show in recent years with a show floor increase of 8 percent. This year’s show housed more than 6,800 attendees, of which nearly 2,000 were wholesale or retail buyers and over 500 were media representatives.

New Product Showcase
With each passing year, the New Product Showcase ratchets up a notch on the competition ladder. In 2006, more than 188 companies entered over 500 new products and innovations vying for the coveted Best of Show honors as well as the overall Best of Show. Pure Fishing took top honors with “Best of Show” for its Berkley FireLine Crystal. The New Product Showcase category winners are Airrus; AA/Optimum Bait Co.; C.A.G.I. Outdoor Products; Costa del Mar; Humminbird; MegaStrike, Inc.; Minn Kota; Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp.; Outdoor Adventure Kids; Penn Fishing Tackle; Plano Molding Company; Shimano American Corp.; and Swifty Manufacturing, Inc. Plan ahead for ICAST 2007 to make sure your innovations make it from the drawing board to the show floor, where over 500 members of the media and roughly 2,000 buyers will judge your products.

Manufacturer and Retailer of the Year Announced
During the ICAST 2006 Chairman’s Industry Awards reception, sponsored by Shimano American Corporation, the Recreational Fishing and Boating Foundation (RBFF) and ASA announced the “Take Me Fishing” Manufacturer of the Year and Retailer of the Year award recipients. This year’s Manufacturer of the Year award went to Shakespeare Fishing Tackle and the Retailer of the Year award went to Cabela’s, Inc. Angler’s Legacy, a new mission under the “TakeMeFishing” campaign which had its official launch at ICAST, is an innovative program to entice avid anglers to introduce someone to the joys of fishing. Industry Breakfast
This year, close to 500 people attended the Industry Breakfast. In their comments, Mike Nussman, ASA president and CEO and Dave Pfeiffer, executive vice president, Shimano American Corporation, addressed the importance of innovation in the sportfishing industry.
