 New Product Showcase Preview Reception

Tuesday, July 18   •   5:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
Las Vegas Convention Center, C3 Concourse

Sponsored by Fishing Tackle Retailer/BASS

Buyers and members of the media are invited to this special reception to learn about all the latest innovations in fishing gear. The reception offers an exclusive sneak preview of the New Product Showcase, the flagship feature of ICAST, prior to the official show opening.

This is your the best chance to learn about the latest items directly from product designers and other company experts. This is especially valuable when it comes to new product offerings from small companies and entrepreneurs, who may not have enough staff to support both their booth and the New Product Showcase area during the show.

Buyers and media also serve as the official judges for the prestigious Best of Show competition, and are automatically entered into a raffle for a cash prize just for voting. This year, exhibiting companies will have the opportunity to compete in a total of 16 product categories as well as for the overall Best of Show award.

This reception is open to New Product Showcase exhibitors, buyers, and credentialed media only.  Please drop off a business card when you receive your ballot.

 Industry Breakfast

Wednesday, July 19    •   7:30 a.m.–8:45 a.m.
Las Vegas Convention Center N109

Tickets required.

Just before the show floor opens on July 19, ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman will provide his State of the Industry message followed by the keynote speaker. This year’s theme is the importance of innovation in keeping the sportfishing industry strong and prosperous. Dave Pfeiffer, executive vice president, Shimano American Corporation and ASA’s Board of Directors chairman, will open the breakfast with welcoming remarks.

But innovation doesn’t just apply to developing new ways to catch a fish. Innovation also applies to sales, marketing and product pricing, particularly in the retail sector. This year’s keynote speaker, Larry Steinmetz, Ph.D., former professor of management at the Graduate School of Business, University of Colorado, successful entrepreneur and president of High Yield Management, Inc., will have everyone thinking very differently—and much smarter—about prices and profits.

 Chairman’s Industry Awards Reception

Wednesday, July 20   •   5:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
Las Vegas Convention Center Ballroom

Sponsored by Shimano American Corporation

Dave Pfeiffer, executive vice president of Shimano American Corporation and Chairman of the American Sportfishing Association’s Board of Directors, will host our annual reception welcoming ICAST attendees and celebrating the show’s opening day. Manufacturers around the world are reeling from the growing trend in product counterfeiting—now estimated to be a $500 billion global trade. The practice has become so pervasive that even major companies’ sales and brand identities are being seriously affected. During this seminar, experts from the Department of Homeland Security’s International Property Rights Center will share information on what is being done and what can be done in the future to thwart commerce in fake products.

Your Federal Tax Responsibilities
Thursday, July 20  •  11:00 a.m.–Noon & repeat 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.

Paying the federal manufacturers’ excise tax on fishing gear is part of doing business for every manufacturer. During these sessions, specialists from the IRS will explain how the tax is applied to various business models and explain sportfish manufacturers’ responsibility for tax payments. Every manufacturer will want to hear about the changes found in the 2006 IRS Director’s Directive, payment scenarios and terminology.

Apparel Lounge

In the middle of the ICAST show floor, the Apparel Lounge showcases sponsoring exhibitors’ latest apparel and merchandise. Mannequins sport apparel from AFTCO Manufacturing, Pelagic LLC and Slam Gear, Inc. Not only will attendees be able to view the latest trends in clothing and accessories, but they will also be able to take a well deserved break and catch up with peers in the lounge area. Open during show hours, the Apparel Lounge is located at Lounge #1532.

Foundations’ Showcase

The FishAmerica and Future Fisherman Foundations’ Showcase has an array of products from companies who contribute a percentage of their sales to the Foundations through cause-related marketing partnerships. E-TEC Marine Products, Pac Bay, Plano Molding Company, Pro Line Manufacturing and Stonehedge Winery are companies who support angling education and fisheries conservation in communities throughout the United States. Open during show hours, the Foundations Showcase is located at Lounge #1454.
