New Appointments Strengthen Sportfishing Industry's Investments In The Future Of Fishing
by Janet Tennyson
Strengthening the sportfishing industry's investments in fisheries conservation and fishing education, the American Sportfishing Association is marshaling new resources and expertise to broaden the impact of its two non-profit foundations.
John Bryan recently came on board as ASA's first Chief Philanthropy Officer. A key part of his fundraising responsibilities is to leverage corporate, partner, and charitable contributions with the sportfishing industry's investments in ASA's FishAmerica Foundation and Future Fisherman Foundation. Bryan comes to ASA from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts where he was Associate Dean for Development for the last 22 years.
Johanna Laderman also officially took the helm as Managing Director of the FishAmerica Foundation this month after serving as acting director over the past year. Prior to this position, Laderman administered the foundation's $1 million grant program. She previously administered fish and wildlife research grants for the State of Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
"I've always thought our two foundations are some of our best investment's in fishing's future," said Mike Nussman, President and CEO of the American Sportfishing Association. "With dedicated leadership for our foundations and professional fundraising capabilities, we can have a much greater impact on fishing and ensure millions of anglers can continue to have good experiences out on the water."
ASA's FishAmerica Foundation represents the sportfishing industry's commitment to conservation by providing matching grants for grassroots fisheries conservation and research across the country. ASA's Future Fisherman Foundation leverages resources from the sportfishing industry to support a national network of outdoor educators and youth organizations involved with teaching people to fish.
The American Sportfishing Association is the leading recreational fishing trade association, uniting more than 550 members of the fishing and boating industries, state fish and wildlife agencies, federal land and water management agencies, conservation organizations, angler advocacy groups, and outdoor journalists.
