Press Release

Members National Fishing & Boating Week
Busy schedule announced.
by Forbes Darby

A host of exciting activities are shaping up for National Fishing and Boating Week, June 1–9. Here in the nation’s capitol, the week is going to be a great time to build relations with Congress and the sportsmen’s community, and collaborate with each other on issues of importance to the future of fishing and boating. Please plan to join us in shining the spotlight on the importance of fishing and boating to American society and our livelihood. Here are highlights of the week:

  • The National Fishing and Boating Week Kick-off will be held at Constitution Gardens on the National Mall in Washington, DC, from 8:00 a.m.–12 noon on Monday, June 3. Hundreds of children will wet a line for the first time and learn about angler ethics and conservation. The kick-off will be well attended by dignitaries and partners, and publicized to highlight the successful events taking place in communities across the country.
  • The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation Board Meeting will be held from 12 noon–5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at 601 North Fairfax Street, Suite 140, Alexandria, VA. The Board will consider steps for the next phase of its promotional campaign.
  • ASA’s National Fishing and Boating Week Congressional Reception will be held from 5:30 — 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 in room 225 of the Russell Senate Office Building. This is a major opportunity to gain visibility for fishing and boating, conservation, and current issues with Members of Congress and the Administration. It gives us all a chance to share with each other and network with leaders in the sportsmen’s community. This year’s reception also will pay tribute to ASA’s former Vice President, Norville Prosser and others.
  • ASA members will visit Congressional offices and resource agency administrators on Tuesday, June 4, and Wednesday, June 5, 1:00–5:00 p.m. This is your chance to meet face-to-face with key policy-makers.
  • The Sportfishing and Boating Partnership Council will meet 8:00 a.m.–12 noon on Wednesday, June 5 (location tbd). The council will discuss a new strategic plan for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s fisheries program.
  • The annual Fish Fry sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will be held 6:00–9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at the Department of Commerce, 14th Street and Constitution Avenue, Washington, D.C.
  • The USDA Forest Service will hold its Rise to the Future Reception and awards ceremony 6:00–9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, & Caldwell Offices, 555 11th Street, NW, 6th floor, Washington, D.C.
  • See below for ASA member committee/sub-committee meetings.
