Gordon Robertson, ASA’s New VP

Press Release

Gordon Robertson, ASA’s New VP
ASA taps West Virginia’s wildlife resources second in command.

Gordon Robertson Alexandria, VA—Gordon Robertson was named vice president of government affairs for the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) today. Robertson will be leaving his post as the Deputy Chief of the West Virginia Wildlife Resources program, a position he has held for the past thirteen years, to accept this new role in ASA’s Alexandria, Virginia-based office.

Robertson succeeds long-time ASA vice president Norville Prosser who is retiring this March after nearly thirty years in the industry. "I don’t expect our important policy work to miss a beat," remarked ASA president Mike Nussman. "No one else had the unique blend of experience with freshwater and marine issues to go along with his extensive professional relationships both here in Washington and among the state fish and game agencies," continued Nussman. "Gordon is a great addition to our team and we’re thrilled to have him on board."

"Professionally, my greatest rewards have come from working on resource policy issues with Congress, with other conservation organizations and resource management agencies," Robertson said. "I have always admired the professionalism and the goals of the American Sportfishing Association and its predecessors. There is much history and pride in an association that invests in its own future and champions the resource on which its members depend and enjoy. I am anxious to return to the national policy arena and look forward to being part of the ASA team."

Despite spending the past thirteen years with West Virginia’s Wildlife Resources program as the second in charge for fish and wildlife, Robertson is intimately familiar with the inner workings of associations and life inside the Beltway. For nearly ten years, Robertson worked on legislative and fish and wildlife issues with the Wildlife Management Institute and later the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, both based in Washington, D.C.

At ASA, Robertson will be charged with leading the Association’s extensive public policy program aimed at protecting and enhancing sportfishing and the industry supported by a healthy environment and active group of anglers. Robertson will officially begin his duties on March 3.
